Sculptra® was first developed in Europe for cosmetic use, then it arrived in the USA in 2004. It is a collagen stimulating treatment where Sculptra® is injected into the skin, then the body produces collagen in response to it. This treatment requires patience, since it often takes several treatment to build up noticeable difference, and the treatments are usually done about 2 months apart.
Dr. Klein was selected for the initial training based on her reputation in the medical cosmetic field. In 2004, Dr. Klein was doing tumescent liposuction and fat transfers to give patients the overall filling. After being trained by Europe's Dr. Danny Vleggaar, then Dr. Klein went on to train other physicians all throughout the Pacific Northwest area in the proper techniques to be successful with Sculptra®. Traditionally Sculptra® was used in cheeks and temples like the adjacent photo, but now we use it in many more places.
Any time a patient is interested in looking younger and does not want filler, this is a wonderful go-to procedure. Sculptra® is diluted in sterile water and a small amount of lidocaine is injected into the cheeks and temples, or some other body parts. Afterwards, it is important that the patient massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days called 5-5-5. Sculptra® is a wonderful preventative treatment and is good for simple maintenance.
